Old was first found on Aruba in 1824 by a twelve year old boy named Willem Rasmijn, this started a gold rush that lasted a couple of year. The exploitation of gold was done by several companies over the year. In 1872 to 1881 the right for mining the gold was given to the English company Aruba Island Gold Mining Company, it was this company that build the Bushiribana in 1874. The idea of the Bushiribana Gold Mines was to grind the rocks into dust. The mill would be powered by the powerful wind of the northeast sea. The dust would then leave the clumps of gold behind to be pickup by the workers Out of 252 tons of ore the company achieved almost 560 Oz. of pure gold although between 1878 and 1880 almost 2100 Oz of pure gold was produced from almost 3000 ton ores.
